Religion, god, and all of that

In this project I am most interested in exploring my battle with the religion I was born into.  I have photographed religious symbols that I am exposed to everyday, this symbols do not have much meaning to me, but mean a great deal to my family.  I am interested in this subject because I have always felt like an outcast in my religious family and do not quite understand the faith that they have.  I wonder how someone can make all the good things in the world but not the bad.  In my favorite poem “The Tyger” by William Blake, he explores this same theme.  The main question what does the undeniable existence of evil and violence in the world tell us about the nature of God, and what does it mean to live in a world where a being can at once contain both beauty and horror?  I express my feelings through short statements written on select photographs.  My goal with this work is to show others that feel a similar way that I feel that they are not the only ones, and it is not wrong to question your faith, for I have always felt alone and wrong with my feelings.

“The night suggests, it does not show. The night disquiets and surprises us with its otherness; it releases forces within us which by day are dominated by reason. I love the wonders of the night, which the light causes to break forth" Brassai
